Nova Communications showcases future of wireless

December 14th, 2007

Nova Communications, Eastern Canada’s largest independent communications system integrator, turned its 167 Trider Crescent location into a showcase for the latest wireless technologies for business and government to mark its 25th anniversary.

The show featured representatives from many of the industry’s leading companies, who were onsite for seminars and product demonstrations. More than 200 people arrived to view the showcase and seminars were standing room only.

“Wireless technology is changing daily and we’re committed to help our customers use wireless technology to communicate better, improve productivity and maximize safety,” says Andrew Boswell, president of Nova Communications. “We showcased a variety of new wireless advances that are shaping the future, and discussed solutions we offer to integrate turnkey wireless systems.

“I was really thrilled with the event and the number of participants. We had partners here from across North America and a great turn out from the local area as well. This is the first event we ever had highlighting ‘wireless’ and the proof of its success can be seen in the fact there has been so many requests to make it an annual event.”

A highlight of the show was the new wireless technology jointly created by CarteNav Solutions, Nova Communications and HP Canada for Halifax Regional Search and Rescue. Nova Communications and CarteNav Solutions, an expert in real-time tracking software, worked closely with Halifax Regional Search and Rescue to create a safer and more “search efficient” way of tracking during a search.

This new technology minimizes the time required to find a lost person. Michel Lechmann, vice president of Operations at CarteNav, says, “By combining CarteNav’s asset tracking software with Nova’s digital radio technology, we’ve created a real-time tracking solution ideally suited to Search and Rescue.”
This new technology was demonstrated for the first time at the Wireless Showcase.

“Halifax Regional Search and Rescue is pleased to partner with such reputable and professional firms in our efforts to advance the science of Search and Rescue. There’s little doubt we will be able to one day say this advanced technology was directly responsible for saving a life,” says Tony Rodgers, public relations officer for the Halifax Regional Search and Rescue.

Another highlight of the showcase was Motorola’s Motodriven Pavilion, marking its first and only time in Canada. The mobile Pavilion offered an exclusive chance to see into the future of Motorola’s wireless products and technologies. The Pavilion is a custom-designed, specially modified tractor and semi-trailer that contains video presentations, product display and seminar space for up to 40 people. This year’s tour started at the Superbowl.

Nova Communications is a “one stop shop” for designing, integrating and maintaining wireless solutions to ensure safety and increase productivity. The showcase offered an opportunity to sample a flavor of Nova Communications partners in wireless, including such services as the latest in high speed wireless devices, communications towers and antennas, satellite phones and tracking, hand-held computers and wireless for video surveillance.
