Is it possible to extend your land mobile radio system coverage outside your vehicle?
For anyone that works in a vehicle (i.e. police officers, firefighters or those in the transportation industry, to name a few), you can’t typically communicate when you’re outside of your vehicle.
The problem is that this lack of communication can have serious safety and productivity implications.
The good news is Tait’s new Remote Application now makes it possible to extend your vehicle’s radio functionality to your smartphone, allowing you to continue to communicate even when you step outside your work vehicle.
This is also great feature for those who lack portable radio coverage, perhaps due to an inability to afford radios for all team members.
This blog post will show you how it works.
How to Extend Land Mobile Radio System Coverage with Tait’s Remote App
In order for you to be able to use this feature, your vehicle has to already be equipped with Tait Unified Vehicle. Tait Unified Vehicle is a platform that combines mobile radio and broadband connectivity. It comes equipped with WiFi, which is what’s needed for the Remote App to work.

This is how the Remote App actually works:
The Remote App allows you to connect to the vehicle’s WiFi network. This then allows you to extend radio functionality, whether you are changing channels, making calls or activating emergencies, all the way up to 328 feet (100 meters) outside the vehicle.
Essentially what happens is your voice travels via WiFi, back into the vehicle and back into the portable as you can see in the demo below:
*However, at the time of this writing, it only supports Android devices.
Here is a demo of how this product:
Other Benefits of The Remote App
Of course, there are other benefits of the Remote App now, too.
One benefit of the Remote App is the fact that it records all of the calls (both transmitting or receiving) for up to one month, giving you a valuable record log of all activity. For instance, you can hear all of the voice recordings that took place during that time.
And as mentioned above, this is a great feature for organizations who lack portable radio coverage as the platform allows you to use an Android device to connect to the vehicle’s mobile radio via WiFi.
Wrapping It Up
Tait Unified Vehicle and its companion app, Remote App, now makes it possible to extend the coverage of your mobile radio fleet up to 328 feet (100 meters) outside of your vehicle.
This keeps communication intact, safety issues to a minimum, and productivity levels high for those relying on a land mobile radio system.
